Please come and visit with volunteer members of the Mount Diablo Surveyors Historical Society (MDSHS) on May 16th (Saturday) or 17th (Sunday) 2009 between 10AM & 4PM as we join with the United States Geologic Survey (USGS) Western Region to celebrate their 9th Triennial Open House. Be sure to come out to see us as this event only happens once every three years!

MDSHS will have a hands-on staffed display of historical surveying and mapping instrumentation located outside of Building 3 . This year will mark the 6th time that MDSHS has particiated in this event. (1994, 1997, 2000, 2003, 2006 and 2009)

This is very much a fun and educationl acitvity for the whole family. MDSHS members will be on hand to demostrate historical surveying equipment and be able to provide information about the important role that surveying and surveyors play in assisting scientist in documenting their work.
Additionally members will be talking with the public about how the Profession serves them and the important role that Surveyors provide to Society. Many of the Docents present will be licensed practicing Professional Land Surveyors.

Scientists at the USGS Menlo Park campus are leaders in research on earthquakes, water quality, volcanoes, coastal and marine geology, mineral and energy resources, geography, and the San Francisco Bay ecosystem.

The event is free of charge and is located on the Menlo Park Camps at 345 Middlefield Road, Menlo Park, CA (dirctions).

There will be kid friendly exhibits, live entertainment and guided tours of the gardens where one can see the 2nd largest public collection of rhododendron varieties in California.
