The
Mount Diablo Surveyors Historical Society was created by a group of California
surveyors in 1989 that work in the United States Public Land Survey System and
subsequent subdivisions thereof, is influenced and referenced to the Mount
Diablo Meridian for the public land surveys of a large portion of California
and all of Nevada.
The
Society is a California non-profit public benefit corporation organized in 1990
under IRS 501 (c) 3, (Federal #89168065802, California #1835904). Our members
are located throughout California and Nevada with additional members located
nationwide. The membership is comprised primarily of Professional Land
Surveyors and non-professionals alike. No requirements are placed on
membership; all interested persons are encouraged to join.
The
Mount Diablo Surveyors Historical Society is committed to preserving the
instruments, artifacts and records used and created by the surveyors who worked
in and around the area under the influence of the Mount Diablo Meridian. To
this end, the society is accumulating instruments, records, photographs, maps
and documents, which represent this endeavor. The society also has published an
educational hand out pamphlet entitled “Land Surveying, The Mt. Diablo Initial
Point, its History and Use“ which is provided to Mt. Diablo State Park at no
charge.
Other
efforts of the Society include displays at surveyor’s conferences, Public
service projects, special events at local parks and museums, and displays in
public buildings
