2008 Sheep Shearing Day
April 26, 2008
The city of San Ramon Parks & Community Services along with the San Ramon Historic Foundation held their annual Sheep Shearing Day event at the historic Forest Home Farms located in San Ramon, CA. The Mount Diablo Surveyors Historical Society (MDSHS) hosted their booth and display antique surveying equipment and maps.
The sheep got their spring "haircut" by professional sheep sheerer, Russ Duguid. Festivities included wool spinners, wood turners, woodcarvers, quilters and more. Other entertainment included, a kid's craft area, old-fashioned games, and tours of the farm. There was a special performance of "Just Kidding Music" at 1:00 p.m. Entertainers, Lynn and Jill encouraged an awareness of American folk music through the use of play party games, old-time fiddle tunes, stories, songs and parody. The audience was encouraged to participate by playing along with a variety of folk instruments.
This date also marked the grand opening of the new visitor's center with a gift shop and real accessible rest rooms. (See ribbon cutting photos.)
