The quest for a permanent home within the confines of the ARDENWOOD HISTORIC FARM in Fremont continues. This was done in the form of another successful display by the Mount Diablo Surveyors Historical Society (MDSHS) during the ANNUAL HARVEST DAYS FESTIVAL held October 16 and 17, 1999.

This two-day event has always been beneficial to the society, since we always encounter individuals very interested in our display. As usual, the individuals have seen surveyors, but never knew what they were doing or looking through. As we all know, educating the public about surveying, and the history of, is an ongoing chore.

Thanks to the members that helped this year, and volunteered at the booth. They included a welcomed member, and new volunteer John Koroyan and his son Jeffery, who live near the farm. At first John didn't know what he was getting himself into by helping out at the display, but by the end he realized, as some have said in the past, "I'll be back". John even got interested in an aerial map of Ardenwood and vicinity that we had on display. He was showing Jeffery where they lived, but their home was just off the map. Others that volunteered included Peter Friedmann, Michael Foley, Duncan Marshall, Hal Davis, and I, Keith Nofield.

This event is one we attend each year, to show the individuals who run the park that we are determined and serious in obtaining a permanent site within their facility. By the comments we receive every year, we continue to visualize our goal. Every year during the event, individuals in charge of the Harvest Festival come by our booth to thank us and learn about our display. Talks are continuing with the different agencies responsible for allowing us to gain a permanent site within Ardenwood, so stay tuned. The historic farm is run jointly by the East Bay Regional Park District and the City of Fremont.
